RE: Overload Springs vs. AIr Bags

There are a ton of posts on this subject and just about as many opinions. While it may or may not be true that springs are the major difference between vehicles, no matter what you do to your 2500 series truck it will not change the simple fact that according to the manufacturer it is still a 2500 series truck. Besides I doubt that springs alone are the whole story. How about tires, wheels, axles? donn0128, The ONLY difference between a ram 2500 and a ram 3500 SRW is the extra leaf (overload) spring. The clearance lights are an option. The tires, axles, brakes, and everything else is otherwise the same. You are right though, no matter what modifications made, it will still be a 2500. If there were more of a difference, I would have purchased the 3500.

RE: Driveline fluids for your tow rig??

A lot of guys are upgrading the rear diff fluid to 75-140W that meets the required GL Spec on the AAM 11.5 rear axles.

RE: Best route from Florence, OR to Interstate 5

We just got back from Coos Bay. On the way down, we traveled 126, and on the way back, we traveled 38. HWY 38 is much better than 126. Plus, in Drain, Oregon, the service station had diesel fuel a lot cheaper than everywhere else I had seen the entire weekend. The shell station in Reedsport had the cheapest fuel on the coast by a dime or more. 126 has a lot of rough portions between Florence and Mapleton.

RE: Edge chip

Which Edge programmer do you have? If you don't have the Attitude monitor, you might think about upgrading to the Attitude as it give you all the gauges you will need for around the same as it would cost for quality aftermarket gauges. And you get additional power levels and tuning options. Towing with a tuner and no EGT gauge on a diesel, no matter what power level, is not a good idea. You would be very surprised how quickly EGTs can rise, especially on a long grade. I'll second getting the attitude monitor. The basic monitor will have guage functionality and IIRC may have a turbo timer feature. Plus you can set it to de-fuel on transmission slip if you have an auto (I think). The nicest part about the monitor is that you can have it de-fuel at programmed set points. This is key because while you are busy hot-rodding around, the attitude monitor will defuel when you get on it too much, and trust me, you will get on it too much. Good luck and be safe.

RE: Edge chip

I've set it to "race" for this next trip, which will be the same roads as the last trip so I'll get a good comparison. I expect to hit that 1250 EGT more frequently until I change the exhaust.Phil You should reconsider towing on the race setting. I think you could do some serious damage to your transmission if you tow with the edge set to the race tune. You just might want to check your manual. I say this because I have the edge attitude with juice, and I can get the clutch to slip in levels 3 and up without the added weight of a trailer. Your mileage may vary. Good luck!

RE: Gas stoves/grills etc.

I have a camp chef and the low pressure hose that I use with my quick disconnect under the frame. Works GREAT.

RE: Rotate air in tires?

Still too busy shoveling all this Global Warming (white) stuff from my driveway that won't stop or go away so that we can also rotate our TT's tires! If anyone else finds my voice, please let me know so I can complain out loud again because we are having more global warming tomorrow. Have a great trip DFH-GMC, Mike. I take it you missed the day in grade school when they covered the differences between weather and climate! My coach has climate control so I dont have to worry about weather. Thanks - I think I needed that after this thread!

RE: Will the RV community unite for our freedom?

Just wondering how many are rather peeved at the rising cost of fuel? IMHO it is not the EXXON's but rather it is the fact that the obstructionists like the Sierra Club that is, and has been, responsible for the rise in fuel costs. I fail to see why protecting the same environment that allows for our very existence is considered an obstruction.

RE: Air Bags

I have had the Air Lift bags in my truck for a year without issue and zero leakage. When you install them, make SURE that you have a clean cut on the air line before you insert it into the connector. I would recommend getting a tool like the craftsman handi-cut to do that work.
